LESS THAN A MONTH TO THE START OF THE MELGES WORLD LEAGUE

La Spezia, 27/03/2023

Melges World League, the iconic regatta circuit for the Melges 32, Melges 20 and Melges 14 fleets, has been the absolute reference point for lovers of One Design Melges Performance Sailboats for more than a decade.
Once again this year Melges confirms itself as a format of excellence addressing owners and teams who wish to compete with the highest quality and performance in the one design racing circuit.

While the Melges 20 season has already made its debut with the Winter Series regattas in Miami, the European debut is expected for both the Melges 20 and Melges 32 fleets which, for most of the season, will travel paired on the same dates and location.
The inaugural event is set in Sardinia from 20 to 23 April in Marina di Puntaldia. This location is considered not only by the Melges world (which was the first to discover this regatta field) as one of the best international spots for One Design sailing. The strong appreciation that both Melges fleets have always shown towards Puntaldia, has led to the choice to “repeat” on the same regatta field for the second Grand Prix of the season scheduled from 26 to 28 May.

July is the month reserved for the Melges 32 who will meet on the internal waters of Lake Garda and more precisely between the buoys of Riva del Garda. This event will be attended also by the Melges 24, the absolute best seller of Melges Performance Sailboats, unmatched for over 30 years.

The Melges 20 and Melges 32 fleets will rejoin in Tuscany and more precisely on the Porto Ercole regatta field; here the third Grand Prix for the Melges 20 class will take place (September 1 to 3) while the fourth and last round of the season for the Melges 32 (August 30 – September 2) will be valid as a World Championship whose crown will be defended by the champion in charge: the Norwegian Pippa by Lasse Petterson.

The Melges 32 worlds regatta field will be transformed, in the arena for the dispute of the 2023 European Championship for the Melges 20 class (21 to 24 September) where the title will be defended by the European (and World) Champion in charge, the Italian Brontolo by Filippo Pacinotti.

The Melges 14 fleet, after the start in Santa Marinella with 6 races held over a weekend and the victory of Luca Angelini, they will meet again for an appointment on Lake Garda to finish by returning to Tuscany.
