Malcesine, 22 July 2021 – Three regattas with well-spread Ora wind started the third event of the Melges World League, hosted over the weekend at Fraglia Vela Malcesine thanks to the joint organization with Melges Europe.
On the inaugural day, the first to start racing were the Melges 32, who found important additions in the fleet including the former World Champions of La Pericolosa and the Corinthian World Champions on Homanit, while tomorrow the Melges 20,represented in Malcesine by over twenty crews, will start racing and the Melges 14, will sail the Melges Race.
The winners of the first race of the event have been the former World Champions of La Pericolosa (1-2-2) who, led by Christian Schwoerer, then suffered the return of the twice world champions of Tavatuy (3-1-1), able to recover immediately the disadvantage over La Pericolosa, scoring with two first places in the remaining races. Partial scorse that allowed Pavel Kuznetsov’s crew to take command of operations, albeit on equal points with the aforementioned German crew, currently second because of the worst partial results.
In third position, we find Lasse Petterson’s Pippa (2-3-3), who must recover three points on the leading duo and who maintains an advantage of seven points over the Hungarians of Farfallina (4-6-5), fourth force of the ranking, in full battle with two Corinthian teams: Heat (5-7-4) of Max Augustin and Homanit (6-4-6) of Maximilian Stein.
The races valid for the Melges 32 event will resume tomorrow at 12.50 pm, followed 10 minutes later by the Melges 20 preparatory signal. Warm up regatta also for the Melges 14, who will be involved in the Melges Race, and then start with the third seasonal act of their Melges World League on Saturday.
